Youths wanting to study in professional colleges in the state will now
have more options to choose from as the All India Council for Technical
Education has given the green signal to 116 new colleges in the state to
start functioning from this academic year.

The approvals came on
Wednesday. The council sent approvals for new colleges, wanting to offer
undergraduate courses, including engineering and pharmacy as well as PG
courses in MBA and MCA.

However, the state body for technical education
could not confirm the increase in the total number of seats. While the
exact number of colleges in the city is still not clear, some institutes
that have been given the go-ahead are Raigar-based Dilkap Research
Institute of Engineering and Management Studies, Kirloskar Institute of
Advanced Management Studies and Kohinoor Business School.

“We will wait for one more day to analyse the total number of seats,’’
said S K Mahajan, head, Directorate of Technical Education.
