No student can fail till class VIII
Here’s a pleasant surprise for students! As per a law by the Centre effective from April 1, 2010, from now on school students will get promoted by gradation even if they fail in their annual exams. All students of Std I to VIII will be promoted to the next class irrespective of examination results, based on the Right to Education Act.
At the same time, the student can not be expelled from the school for any reason. The resolution also says that the students who failed in the academic year 2009-2010 should also be promoted.
"The GR has reached us and we will send it to the divisional board department of state, who will send it to all the schools across the state. The instructions clearly mention that those students should be promoted who failed in 2009-2010 academic year," said a spokesperson of Minister of School Education Balasaheb Thorat. "It’s a big relief for all parents and students, but the instructions also state that students who failed in a particular subject need to pay extra attention in the next class after being promoted. The schools will be given special instructions on the same by the department."
Jayant Jain, president, All-India Federation of PTA and Forum for Fairness in Education, said: "It’s a big relief for all worried parents and students who were not promoted this year."
